I have decided to return back to blogging and sharing my content online here in a website primarily first.

I may share to social media but I am not sure if that would have time to do that.

One thing I like about blogging is the ease of updating an article and publishing it.

Some of the Ghost Stats are quite impressive for a non profit, they have managed to earn quite a substantial revenue to keep them afloat.

I was considering substack but when there was a free version to try Ghost I jumped in quickly to give it a spin.

Some of the pros of writing with Ghost

  • Focused Software just meant for Blogging
  • Built in newsletter software you can send emails here with new posts
  • multiple newsletters
  • No Plugins to worry about
  • Stripe Payments
  • Free hosting if you use Digital Press
  • Paid options using Ghosts Pro
  • forces you to focus just on creating content.

Cons

  • Need to use integrations which can get expensive if you use a lot
  • Can't verify that SEO works well
  • Ghost is blogging focused you can't make other functions unlike wordpress
  • no plugins you can install, have to develope your own tools
  • multimedia support seems more limited than Wordpress you have to use HTML embeds for other media
  • Sometimes youtube embeds don't work well
  • More developer focused from the markdown writing to its code like publishing
  • mobile publishing not really there yet like medium or wordpress app there is third party apps like Ghost Writer

Conclusion

I think for now Ghost has been an intering piece of software forcing me to keep publising my writing. I have less worries about maintaining a website and just focus on creating my posts.
